FYI, found this fascinating
listeria monocytogenes is a gram positive bacilli that’s a pretty nasty intracellular pathogen. the little buggers are eaten up by macrophages but are able to dodge degradation by releasing exotoxins that screw with lysosomes. They then celebrate by highjacking the intracellular highway and joyriding around until they make it to a neighboring cell
They are very opportunistic infections…usually affecting pregnant/old/immunocomp individuals typically via food poisoning
